Little A at five months | Boston Baby Photography

March 31, 2009

Bilal and Lama have the cutest little five-month girl, A, and I present to you our photoshoot from Sunday afternoon. It was also too cold to go outside, so we just played with A inside their home.

She was smiling the entire time, made my job really easy =)

I love her curiosity with the Minnie Mouse doll. I also had to take this photo quickly because she isn’t too used to sitting up by herself yet!

Family portrait – I really liked the color of the bedroom wall

Cuddling on the bed

Just Mom and Dad

Inside her crib with the playmobile on

She makes me smile so much! Does this photo not cheer you up?!

A Family Photoshoot | Boston Family Photography

March 31, 2009

Last Saturday I got to spend some time with this precious adorable little boy, “A”, who is celebrating his first birthday very soon! We originally wanted to get lots of fun photos both outside and inside but Boston weather did not cooperate and decided to drop 20 degrees within 30 minutes. It got so cold! We were able to catch some photos in Boston Public Gardens to start…

He’s growing some teeth!

We saw some mounted policemen and they said it was totally safe to pet the horse. I think we were all a little scared but the horses were very gentle!

Portrait of the gorgeous gorgeous family. See a resemblance? The mother, Victoria, is the daughter ofStella and Leonid, who I featured last week

Part of the reason we did the photoshoot was because we needed table number cards for the birthday party. We decided to feature A in all of them, posing with numbers! He was a little fidgety and wanted to eat the cards, but we were able to shoot all 9 numbers without too much fussing

By this time we’d snuck inside the Four Seasons Hotel because it just got way too cold and there really is no other place to hide in the area other than hotels. We were able to take another half hour just doing photos on the upstairs level by the ballroom until an event kicked us out. They were very nice about it though! Look at him crawl!

I love this silly photo of Victoria and A in the mirrors of the women’s restroom

Some portraits of A with his parents near the end of the photoshoot as he got hungry. Even if the weather was bad, I loved the diffuse lighting streaming through these really large windows by this staircase

Can’t wait to photograph A’s birthday soon! You’ll be seeing him a lot of him on this blog as we’re slated for maybe 4 more photoshoots through this year. Babies grow up fast and we’re hoping to catch those changes throughout the year! See some more photos here

Eugenia and Steve | Boston Engagement Photography

March 26, 2009

The latest engagement session took place over St. Patrick’s Day weekend in the Blue Hills in Canton – the subway was an absolute mess, I was glad my equipment and I came out alive! As I’ve said before, I welcome any opportunity to shoot outside of the city. We had a beautiful combination of bright sunlight, gorgeous setting, and a very loving couple! I met Eugenia and Steve through an early client of mine (Steve is related to that family), back from when I first started doing gigs beyond Harvard friends, so you can imagine how floored I was to get a referral! You can see that family’s photos here. With the abundant sunlight I got to play a lot more with backlighting in this shoot. Steve proposed to Eugenia at Blue Hills, so it’s only fitting that we should go there.

They were a little nervous at first, all my clients are, usually, it takes guts to get in front of the camera! And Steve noted the tree had a broken branch. haha!

But they quickly opened up!

I told Steve to whisper something to Eugenia here, heehee

I LOVE the sun!!! I love the bokeh on my 85mm too. This must be what Cali photogs feel like every day!

Getting a little silly… it might be spring, but there are still fallen leaves on the ground

I love hearing Eugenia’s laugh. They laugh often and it’s so adorable

See you guys in the fall for your wedding!

Michele and Kris | Boston Engagement Photography

March 21, 2009

I’m so excited that spring temperatures are rising and we’re starting to see buds on the trees and more daylight! I can’t wait until there are no more snow storms and there are leaves everywhere.

Kris and Michele decided to begin their engagement photoshoot at the beautiful Acorn Street on Beacon Hill, slowly meandering to the Esplanade. Kris and Michele brought different kinds of props, including flowers, and cupcakes! How cute!

AADT Eastbound 2009 | Boston Event Photography

March 17, 2009

The wonderful women and men of AADT put on two sold-out shows this year for Eastbound 2009, and their performance was spectacular! I had taken over 1,000 photos, so you can imagine how hard it was for me to pick out some favorites to display. When I select dance photos to display, I focus on the following things (after considering technicalities such as sharpness, color, exposure): 1) composition – how are the dancers composed in the frame? 2) emotion or action – does it capture the essence of the dance? 3) artistry – did it pick a good frame of the lighting design? 4) Does it have a lot of people? – in the larger gallery you’ll see some more singles, usually because if you happen to be in the front of the dance you are photographed more often, but I like including large groups for display just so people don’t feel left out.

Every person who puts on a dance show – you know how important it is to design your lighting well. Sometimes I even approach the lighting designer myself to offer some suggestions or to at least understand why lighting was created in a certain way – hip hop dances for example tend to have really fast-moving lights, which are really a feast for the eyes, but very, very hard to capture for a photographer (I’m not complaining, I welcome a challenge)! Lighting not only conveys the mood you want for your dancers, but also, poor lighting design means you can’t see the performers – in person or on film! For even the best cameras, if your lighting is too dim throughout the dance, your photos and video won’t come out clear. My suggestion to all lighting designers is that there should at least be a 20 to 30-sec segment of your dance where you utilize white spotlights on the dancers – your background can still be colored, but your dancers need to be illuminated.

on to the photos!
