I got to shoot Justin of The Sound of Growing Up. He’s a talented singer-songwriter – check out some of his tunes at his myspace.
We had a lot of fun shooting in the [bitter] cold around Central Square and MIT’s Stata Center. Luckily the sun was very bright and the sky was a brilliant blue.

I’m so, so excited to start shooting outdoors again. Albeit, it’s very, very, very cold, and I have to give major props to Siobhan, Terence, and Liza, who came all the way up from Cohasset to shoot this afternoon with me! They are all actors / models, and they’re so fun and creative to work with! I began with the Christian Science Center area and then moved on to the South End. It was unusually sunny and the skies were very, very blue. We even had a very fun indoor pit stop at a laundromat!
Today was also the first time I tried out the 85mm lens in a professional setting, and I really, really like it. It takes a little adjustment to have to remember to stand at least 5 – 10 feet away from my subject to frame most of their body, but the range is definitely great for portraits.
The majority of today’s portraits were shot with the 85mm f/1.8 lens (see my previous post), though I also carried my 30mm (which needs fixing for a loose part, which I think is throwing its focus off), and my kit 18-135mm. I really don’t like my 18-135mm, its build is too cheap and has no VR, but for now, it’ll have to do until I can get money to buy the a zoom with VR.
Anyway, I’m not done with all my editing, but the favorites are up for now.

Terence has the most awesome naturally curly hair ever.
One thing I love about the South End are the many different kinds of iron fences. If I have more photoshoots in this area I definitely plan on having more photos that involve them

Another fun idea from the family – getting everyone on a lamp post!
I like the little bit of brick on the right hand side that frames the photo – and Liza’s boots are so cute. I was debating whether or not to keep the golden door handle. There’s a series of photographs shot this way and the golden door handle is always there, just a sliver on the left. What do you guys think? Distracting or keep?
